This photograph was taken after midnight, with a 20-minute open exposure. Even though it was pitch black to our human eyes, the film in the camera records the light from the moon and turns a night-time scene bright and day like.

The artist and his wife poses in the photograph during the open exposure, to appear as the "Pioneer Spirits" on the film.

The T. A. Moulton Barn is all that remains of the homestead built by Thomas Alma Moulton and his sons between about 1912 and 1945. It sits west of the road known as Mormon Row, in an area called Antelope Flats, between the towns of Kelly and Moose.
