Lincoln Memorial, Washington D.C.
A 90 second single exposure done at 2 am.
Artist Statement:
My wife Ingela and I visited President Lincoln the night after his birthday (hence, the wreaths). It was freezing cold and at 2 am and there were more security than visitors, so I finally got some time alone with Lincoln. I placed my large format film camera on the marble floor and put on the stovepipe hat. After opening the shutter, I walked into the shot and stayed perfectly still for about one minute. This created the "Spirit Shadow" on the negative. Once I exited the frame, the "Light if Lincoln" added light to the scene, making my silhouette translucent. It was a magical night.
